Jumbo Supermarkten was established in 1921 and has grown to become the largest privately-owned supermarket chain in the Netherlands with seven strategically located distribution centres serving more than 580 stores across the country. Jumbo’s reputation is built on providing the best service combined with offering the widest range at the lowest cost and its continuing success depends upon absolute reliability in the distribution chain. From its distribution centre at Veghel, Netherlands, a highly efficient logistics hub, some 1.4 million ambient and fresh items are picked and despatched each week – and on-time deliveries are key to the success of the operation.
Crown continued its design excellence tradition with a Bronze International Design Excellence Award (IDEA) from the Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA) for Crown’s QuickPick Remote order picking system.
This year’s win adds to Crown’s growing list of more than 80 major design awards. Over the last 25 years, Crown has earned 22 IDEA awards from the IDSA, making it one of the most decorated companies in the IDEA competition. This year, only 164 products earned the IDEA from the more than 1,700 entries worldwide.
Crown has introduced a transceiver strap wireless remote for its QuickPick Remote order picking technology, which provides warehouse and distribution managers an additional wearable option for their operators.
Crown recently gained its fourth award for the GPC 3000 order picker with QuickPick Remote by winning its 14th GOOD DESIGN™ Award from the Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design and The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies. Honouring the innovative remote glove technology for order picking, the award programme’s jury recognised Crown for its dedication to design that challenges traditional thinking. Crown’s approach to design focuses on ideas for improving lift truck operator productivity and safety, based on a thorough understanding of the operator-forklift relationship.
