X10® Handle Received Numerous Awards

In 2004, the Crown X10® handle for powered pallet trucks and stackers received two prestigious awards for outstanding industrial design: the iF design award 2004 and the red dot award for product design. Receiving both design awards is a confirmation for Crown’s Design Department in Europe.

Over 735 participants from 32 countries applied to the International Forum Design in Hanover, with more than 1630 products vying for the coveted iF certificate. The winners were chosen from a jury of top international designers in the categories of “Product Design”, “Transportation Design” and “Public Design”. The iF design award is one of the best known and most important design competitions in the world. The products are assessed on their design quality, manufacturing quality, choice of materials, innovation, environmental compatibility, functionality, ergonomics and durability.

Since 1955 the Designzentrum Nordrhein Westfalen in Essen has been marking outstanding product design with its famous dot. Manufacturers and designers of a wide range of industrial products can apply for the coveted red dot award in 11 product groups. In 2004 the organisers received 4000 entries from 40 countries. The winning entries have to demonstrate not only their design quality but also high levels of innovation and functionality.

Control handle: the operator/truck interface
For pedestrian pallet trucks, the control handle is the main control interface between the operator and the truck and as such a decisive factor in safety and productivity. That’s why such great emphasis was put into development of the X10® handle by Crown’s engineers and designers at its European headquarters in Munich. In conjunction with their design colleagues in the USA – Crown’s global headquarters are in New Bremen, Ohio – they are able to tailor products to customers’ needs. “Design is a core area of expertise for Crown and part of our corporate culture”, explains Jim Kraimer, Manager Design Centre Europe. In previous years Crown trucks have often won the iF design award as well as other major European and American design prizes.

The X10® handle is featured on Crown models WP 2300 pedestrian pallet truck and WE/WS 2300 pedestrian stacker which are both produced at Crown’s Roding plant in Germany.
