Crown Equipment Adds to Recognition for Sustainability Commitment

NEW BREMEN, Ohio (November 20, 2014) – Crown Equipment Corporation, one of the world’s largest material handling companies, recently earned a Green Supply Chain Award from Supply & Demand Chain Executive. The Green Supply Chain Awards annual program recognizes companies who make green initiatives and sustainability a core part of their supply chain strategy.

“Sustainability is not an afterthought or a special program at Crown,” said Brian Duffy, Crown Equipment’s director of corporate environmental and manufacturing safety. “It co-exists with our day-to-day business practices. We strive to understand environmental impacts throughout our facilities and every stage of the forklift lifecycle, from the design and manufacture stage to end-of-life disposal. Awards such as the Green Supply Chain Award are great recognition for our employees and their efforts, and it provides us with an opportunity to share best practices and lessons learned with the industry.”

The 2014 Green Supply Chain Awards recognize companies who have achieved measurable sustainability goals within their operations in the areas of sourcing/procurement, fulfillment/logistics, operations, product lifecycle management and other areas of the supply chain. Some measures of Crown’s sustainability success include:

–    Three facilities with zero landfill status

–    More than 5 million square feet of brownfield space reclaimed

–    147,418 metric tons of materials reduced, reused and recycled in the past five years

–    1,288 barrels of oil saved per year by utilizing rail transport

–    ISO 14001 certification of Crown’s environmental management system

Crown’s ongoing commitment to environmental sustainability is evident throughout numerous aspects of its operations and has been recognized with more than 18 sustainability awards from organizations such as the National Pollution Prevention Roundtable, the Ohio EPA, Inbound Logistics, Food Logistics and more. Crown previously won a Green Supply Chain Award from S&DCE in 2012.
