Henningsen Cold Storage is one of the largest public refrigerated warehouse companies in the U.S. Its refrigerated logistics consists of a national warehouse network totaling more than 53 million cubic feet of multi-temperature controlled storage (-20 to +60°F). In the past, Henningsen had trouble finding pallet jacks that were robust enough to hold up in a refrigerated application and were easy on the operators. Rider pallet forklifts are used for low-level order picking, as well as loading and unloading trailers on the dock in their operation. Operator fatigue was apparent over the course of a shift due to the constant maneuvering of extended fork pallet trucks in tight spaces.
Now Henningsen utilizes the Crown PE 4500 Series with electronic power steering to assist in the daily operations of their business. Henningsen operators love the power steering on the PE Series because it is designed for optimal ergonomics and reduces strain and fatigue. They’re able to accomplish more at a faster pace while they’re at work but the benefits go beyond that. One Henningsen operator reports that since the company switched from competitor trucks to the Crown PE Series, he is now able to play with his kids and enjoy his family time when he goes home because he’s not fatigued and sore following his shift.
We often talk with customers about improving operator ergonomics or realizing productivity gains, but this was a great reminder of what lift truck performance can mean to someone on a personal level. We’re betting the family of this pallet jack operator appreciates the difference.
